Can you mix vaccines?
This question was answered live at the virtual conference titled, "Don’t Hesitate to Vaccinate! Our Experts Tell You Why" recorded on January 28, 2021.
Short Answer:
You should NOT mix vaccines.
Explanation:
The COVID vaccine comes in two doses, and there are two different brands currently administering them: Pfizer and Moderna. You should get Pfizer and Pfizer OR Moderna and Moderna for the first and second doses.
The CDC made some recommendations: if there were some *really extreme circumstances* in which you received the Pfizer COVID vaccine for the first dose and then for some reason you could not get Pfizer anywhere else and Moderna was available, you could get interchange COVID vaccines but that's very very rare.
From the CDC website:
In exceptional situations in which the first-dose vaccine product cannot be determined or is no longer available, any available COVID vaccine may be administered at a minimum interval of 28 days between doses to complete the vaccination series.
