How long is the COVID vaccine effective?

Vaccine

This question was answered live at the virtual conference titled, "Don’t Hesitate to Vaccinate! Our Experts Tell You Why" recorded on January 28, 2021.

Short Answer:

Scientists are still gathering data

Explanation:

Dr. Jamal Gwathney himself is five months into the study (as of Jan 2021). There are folks that are just coming up on six months because the Pfizer and Moderna studies started July 27th so they'll be getting data after a six month mark.

We're all waiting to get that information right now. We do know that it is definitely effective for three months after your second dose.

Presenters include:

Dr. Jamal Gwathney, Clinical Director, Metropolitan Correctional Center, San Diego Federal Bureau of Prisons; National Public Health Officer
Dr. Rodney Hood, President and Chairman, Multicultural Health Foundation, and Tri-Chair, COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Committee
Dr. Wilma Wooten, Public Health Officer and Director of Public Health Services, County of San Diego, Health and Human Services Agency
